Minnie Dlamini’s skincare company fails to pay SARS, goes out of business

When it rains, it pours for TV personality Minnie Dlamini who has been in the news for the wrong reasons many times this year. After getting divorced from her husband Quinton Jones because of infidelity, the entertainer has been trying to recover and land business deals. However, Minnie Dlamini is set to lose her skincare range company MD after its products disappear from shelves and are rumoured to owe SARS a lot of money in taxes.

In 2019, Minnie introduced her new body care range MD to the world through her social media pages and supplied affordable skin care products. The products were sold in Clicks, Shoprite and Checkers stores nationwide and their prices ranged from R13 to R40. In 2021 the prices further dropped to at least R5, and now the products have disappeared from the shelves altogether.

Tweeps complained about the quality of the MD skincare range

In October 2021, a tweep started a discussion where she asked why celebrities struggle to launch successful brands. Many Tweeps joined and said that Minnie did not do market research on her products but relied more on branding. However, many people were saying that her range was poor quality and fans could not buy them just because they had her name on them.

In the backdrop of all the negative comments that were passed on Twitter, Minnie Dlamini removed the skincare range from her bio. The Instagram page for her products has been deactivated and no longer functions. The Twitter page is still there, but she has not posted there in a long time. Minnie had bragged on Twitter when MD body launched, saying that she had bagged an R10 million grant to pay for the company’s start-up costs.

Reasons why MD Body by Minnie Dlamini is closing

The company Modi Dlamini Marketing producing her product range, is rumoured to have arrears in Tax returns since the company’s registration in 2016. In 2018, the company came close to being deregistered due to non-compliance and non-submission of tax returns. How much MD owes SARS is yet to be discovered, and the entertainer is still mum over all the news circulating in the gossipville.
