Messi On Difficult Mexico Match

Argentina captain Lionel Messi said that another World Cup started for Argentina after their “difficult” win over Mexico.

The Albiceleste beat Mexico 2-0 on Saturday evening thanks to goals by Messi and Enzo Fernandez in the second half.

As a consequence, Argentina moved into second place in Group E, with Poland beating Saudi Arabia in the earlier kick-off to bring the Asian side back down to earth after their shock 2-1 win over Argentina.

The latter could’ve even been eliminated, had they lost to Mexico on Saturday and they started the game with a massive weight on their shoulders.

However, Messi stepped up in the 64th minute to give his side an important lead.

“It was a difficult match to lift ourselves up because Mexico plays well. We played the first half with a lot of intensity and the second half we were calm and we went back to being ourselves,” he said after the match, as per Mundoalbiceleste.

“The first game cost us, there were a lot of factors. We knew that today we had to win, that another World Cup was starting for us and we knew how to do it.

“We can’t give up now. We have all the finals to play, we can’t make mistakes.”

The goal was Messi’s eighth in World Cup history, equalling the tally of his longstanding rival Cristiano Ronaldo as well as Argentina legend Diego Maradona.
