Argentina superstar Lionel Messi clashed with Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal after his side’s penalty shootout win over the European side.
The Albiceleste captain was clearly riled up by Van Gaal’s comments leading up to their quarter-final, with the Bonds coach questioning Messi’s defensive work ahead of the game.
“Messi is the most dangerous creative player, he is able to create a lot and to score goals himself. But when they lose the ball he doesn’t participate much, this gives us chances,” he said during his pre-match press conference.
The comments clearly enticed Messi, who celebrated his second-half goal ahead of Van Gaal before walking up to the 71-year-old after the final whistle.
In his post-match interview with TyC Messi also hit back at Van Gaal, saying: “Van Gaal says that they play good football, but what he did was put tall people and hit long balls.”
