Superstar Lionel Messi has broken his silence over his two-week suspension by Paris Saint-Germain following an unauthorised trip to Saudi Arabia.

Messi travelled to Saudi Arabia for commercial reasons after his side’s 3-1 home defeat to Lorient on Sunday. It is understood he did ask for permission for the trip but it was refused by the club’s bosses.

Messi is a tourism ambassador for Saudi Arabia and is stuck in contract talks with his club, with his current deal expiring by the end of June.

His club’s bosses were not pleased with the trip, which happened on Monday – a scheduled off-day before it was changed to training following PSG’s latest defeat. According to reports, Messi will not be allowed to train or play for PSG in the next two weeks.

He has now apologised to his teammates but also stated that he had cancelled his trip in the past.

“I thought we were going to have a day off after the game as always happened,” he stated on his Instagram, as per AlbicelesteTalk.

“I had this trip organized and I couldn’t cancel it. I had already canceled it before.

“I apologise to my teammates and I’m waiting for what the club wants to do with me.”

Meanwhile, PSG coach Christophe Galtier refused to comment on the suspension in his pre-match press conference on Friday.

“I was informed  by the management at the start of the week of the decision to suspend Leo. I have taken the responsibility not to comment on it,” he said, as per GFF.

“We’ll see when Leo comes back. Obviously there will be discussions with the entire club, but also with Leo who is the most important person in the situation.”
