Mercedes-Benz has recalled 102 vehicles in South Africa over a steering defect

The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has alerted consumers that Mercedes-Benz South Africa is recalling 102 vehicles nationwide.

According to a statement released by the NCC on Thursday, 18 September 2025, the recall affects four EQE-295 models and 98 GLC-254 models, all sold between 2022 and 2025.

Mercedes-Benz says the bolting of the steering coupling on these vehicles may not meet specifications.

“In this case, the mechanical connection between the steering wheel and steering rack might loosen over time. As a result of the defect, this might lead to a loss of the vehicle’s steerability, increasing the risk of an accident,” the statement reads.

Owners of the affected vehicles are urged to visit any authorised Mercedes-Benz dealership to have the component inspected and repaired or replaced.

The NCC reminded consumers that product recalls are vital for safety and called on them to act promptly.

The commission also reiterated that it continues to monitor all ongoing recalls under the Consumer Protection Act.
