KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, has told Nongoma Municipality to remove their newly appointed municipal manager (MM) and chief financial officer (CFO).
Buthelezi sent a letter to Mayor Clifford Ndabandaba and Speaker Babongile Sithole, saying that acting MM Nhlakanipho Zulu and acting CFO Mzwandile Dube do not have the required qualifications for their positions.
“Mr Zulu does not have a bachelor’s degree, which is required for a municipal manager,” he said.
“He only has a postgraduate diploma in project management and a diploma in civil engineering.”
As for Dube, Buthelezi said he doesn’t have the required experience or proof of his qualifications.
Zulu and Dube were appointed last week after the court ruled that the previous MM and CFO, Sipho Nkosi and Bhekokuhle Menyuka, could not stay in their roles longer than three months.
The council replaced them with Zulu and Dube, but now Buthelezi is demanding the appointments be cancelled, threatening to take legal action.
“If you do not cancel your decision from 30 August 2024, I will go to court for urgent action and seek costs against you,” Buthelezi warned the municipality.
Mayor Ndabandaba said they haven’t received Buthelezi’s letter, although there is proof that it was sent on 4 September 2024.
