McCarthy’s Son Knocks On Chiefs Door

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Fabian McCarthy’s son, Aden, says he’ll remain patient and wait for his  senior team call-up after impressing for the club’s DStv Diski Challenge team.

McCarthy, 18, has become a main pillar in Vela Khumalo’s squad, helping Chiefs’ DDC team to lift the Diski Shield this past weekend.

The McCarthy name is not unknown at Naturena with his father Fabian playing five years at Chiefs between 2003 and 2008 after joining from Mamelodi Sundowns.

Aden, though, has remained grounded and insisted he will wait for his chance in Arthur Zwane’s senior side.

“I like stuff like that. It shows that people are watching me,” he told Karabo Pasha after the Diski Shield final.

“But I can’t make any comment about it. It’s God’s timing, that’s how I take it.

“I work hard, I keep working hard and I’m just waiting for that call, but I’m always knocking on the door.”

When asked about his goal exploits, McCarthy explained that he tries to chip in when his strikers are shooting blanks.

“I’m trying [to contribute], I’m trying to score,” he added.

“Some of our attackers now and then miss too many chances, can’t put it in the back of the net.”
