Kaizer Chiefs could still land SuperSport United midfielder Sipho Mbule with the January transfer window set to close in the next seven days.
Chiefs have been long term admirers of Mbule’s talent and his agent Mike Makaab confirmed that there was initial contact between the two clubs in August last year.
“Yes, there is. Yes, there is interest in Mbule,” Mikaab told iDiski Times before the Tokyo Olympic Games.
“But again, we’ve not had formal discussions with any football club in South Africa, purely because, and I’ve said this before, out of respect to SuperSport United.”
However, this publication has learnt that Amakhosi could still make an official bid for the South Africa international in the coming days.
Matsatsansa look poised to lose Teboho Mokoena in the current window with Mamelodi Sundowns having agreed on personal terms with the player – while Anderlecht also remain keen.
It remains to be seen whether the club are willing to part with both of their midfield talents – who are both still on long-term contracts.
But with Mbule only completing 90 minutes in the league four times this season, the emergence of Selaelo Rasebotja, Oswin Oppolis and Thalente Mbatha could soften the blow as Jamie Webber and Jesse Donn have already formed integral parts of their midfield options.
