GladAfrica Championship side Free State Stars and head coach Innocent Mayoyo have reached an amicable decision to part ways.

Mayoyo joined Stars in December 2021 after parting ways with Polokwane City.

But a string of poor results which included a five-match winless streak led to the collapse of the working relationship between the two parties.

He was in charge of 11 matches, won three, drew four and lost four. Ea Lla Koto are currently ninth on the GladAfrica log with 32 points, only seven points below the promotion playoff spot.

“The one bottom line that is frustrating me and made me decide to take a break is this referee’s thing,” Mayoyo told FARPost on Monday.

“No, no, no. Because you will end up being personal with another individual and it’s not right. Honestly, the reason mina (myself) left my job is because of these match officials, I don’t want people to speculate. I don’t want that. I am not a person who shies away from saying things the way they are.

“I stand for myself, Innocent Mayoyo paid his dues in this county, no one is doing me a favour. The reason I told the club that please, let’s just terminate amicably without fighting with the owners of the club is because I can’t play against referees. I can’t,” added Mayoyo.

“What pisses me off is four games in a row (bad officiating) No I can’t. Remember there are no people in the stadiums. Maybe football will be better as people are coming back and games are televised. Before it was just the 22 of you, no other people there in Venda.

“Do you understand? if referees are not coming out of the dressing room before you guys leave. When our bus starts, they also come out and directors are waiting. No, it’s not going to work. Then for me, football can wait. I will wait for the right one hai hai (No no).”
