Mayor: NMB water not safe to drink

The Nelson Mandela Bay municipality has revealed that the metro’s water quality has deteriorated and that it’s not safe to drink.

The revelation comes a week after the publication covered a story where residents were complaining that the water coming out of their taps was making them ill.

“Regrettably I would have to inform you that the water is still a health risk, water is not safe,” said Executive Mayor Eugene Johnson.

“So, we are advising communities and residents to boil the water before they drink it.”

Johnson says an independent accredited laboratory will be appointed to conduct the sampling.

The municipality has also assured residents that they are dealing with this as a matter of urgency.
