SuperSport United CEO Stan Matthews has explained the decision to let midfielder Sipho Mbule join Mamelodi Sundowns.

Matsatsantsa confirmed on Friday morning that they have agreed a deal with Sundowns for the transfer of Mbule for an undisclosed fee.

The Harmony Academy product joined the club in 2016, making his senior team debut in 2015/16.

Kaizer Chiefs were understood to be also keen on his signature but he put pen to paper on a three-year deal at Chloorkop.

“We tried all avenues to turn things around with Sipho, but in recent months it became clear that his heart and mind is not at our club and that it was best for us to part ways,” SSU CEO Stan Matthews said.

“We wish Sipho every success in football and in life and hope to see the best of him in the future as he truly has special talent that can light up the PSL and Bafana Bafana.”

Mbule leaves SuperSport after making 100 appearances for the club, scoring 11 goals and assisting another 10. He won two MTN8 titles with Matsatsantsa and is Downs’ first signing of the new season.
