Beyoncé Knowles Carter’s father and former manager, Mathew Knowles, is making headlines for abruptly ending and walking out on an interview when questions about his ex-wife’s involvement with Destiny’s Child come up.

Tina Knowles and Mathew were married from 1980 to 2011, producing Beyoncé and her younger sister, Solange.

Mathew quit his job as a Xerox salesman to manage Destiny’s Child, which pushed the group to major success in the music world.

Mathew recently sat down with Kendis Gibson, anchor at New York City news outlet PIX 11, for an interview.

“You’ve earned your flowers. I said the same thing to Ms. Tina Knowles. You guys put in the work, and obviously the talent was there, with your kids and your grandkids,” Gibson said.

“What work did she put in?” asked Mathew.

“Well, the hair, …” Gibson said.

“Ok, you’re absolutely right, and the styling. The imaging. You’re right,” Mathew responded.

“… It’s a joint effort,” Gibson continued.

“We’ll stop now,” Knowles said as he stood up from his chair.

Both men laugh uncomfortably.

“Sorry. Did I say something wrong?” Gibson asked.

“No, no, no, we’re good,” Mathew said, offering Gibson a handshake.

“Thank you,” said Gibson.
