The Impucuzeko Maskandi Festival, held on Saturday at the People’s Park in Durban, brought together leaders from KwaZulu-Natal’s Government of Unity (GNU).
The festival attracted thousands of traditional music fans and was a platform for political leaders to show their unity.
Among those enjoying the event were DA leaders in traditional attire, KZN Legislature deputy Speaker Mmabatho Tembe, and eThekwini councillor Welekazi Sibiya.
ANC representatives included Ntwenhle Mkhize and eThekwini Mayor Cyril Xaba, who shared jokes recalling his early return home after being removed as MEC for Agriculture in 2016, which surprised his dogs, he said.
IFP Deputy President Inkosi Mzamo Buthelezi, along with MEC for Agriculture Thembeni KaMadlopha-Mthethwa, were also present.
KaMadlopha-Mthethwa stressed their commitment to delivering services to the people.
A special moment at the festival was when Maskandi artist Ali Mgube crowned disabled artist Mayogathi as the new King of Maskandi, a title that has caused disputes in the past.
