Bafana Bafana defender Terrence Mashego has arrived in Johannesburg to complete his move to Mamelodi Sundowns.
Mashego was spotted at OR Tambo International Airport where he was whisked away by club staff.
Cape Town City and Sundowns agreed on a transfer fee believed to be in the region of R10 million earlier this week.
Mashego will put pen to paper on Thursday to complete his switch from Cape Town City to Sundowns.
He had been on the radar of Kaizer Chiefs.
Howver, the Soweto giants were reportedly were not willing to meet City’s valuation of the talented defender.
WHY THE CHIEFS DEAL NEVER TRANSPIRED…
“There was interest from Kaizer Chiefs and Sekhukhune, but they both didn’t agree on the transfer fee with Cape Town City,” a FARPost source said.
“Sundowns pushed for him in the last couple of days, and John [Comitis] couldn’t resist the offer
“For the player, it’s definitely improved personal terms, which he couldn’t turn down.”
City had just triggered the two-year option on his contract, which would have kept him at the club until June 2024.
He joined them in 2020 from TS Galaxy on a two-year [plus two] deal. At Sundowns, he is believed to be signing a five-year deal.
His arrival at Sundowns casts speculation on Lyle Lakay’s future at the club, with SABC Sport reporting that he could go the opposite direction.
Lakay, who played for Cape Town City in the 2017/18 season, has seemingly fallen down the pecking order at Sundowns.
Aubrey Modiba has been the preferred left-back this season, starting six games in the DStv Premiership. In his seventh appearance, he came off the bench.
Lakay, on the other hand, has started one game and came off the bench five times.
City already found a replacement in Mark van Heerden, who joined them from neighbours Stellenbosch.
