ActionSA Johannesburg mayoral candidate Herman Mashaba will on Saturday ,31 October visit Soweto to engage residents who have been waiting for housing allocations following the recent handover of 300 housing units in Jabulani.
Mashaba will be accompanied by ActionSA Deputy President Dr Kekana Mbahare and other party representatives, including its candidate for MMC of Human Settlements, Zandile Dabula.
In a statement released on Friday,October 30 , ActionSA Spokesperson Cannedy Netshitungulu, said the visit follows concerns raised by the organisation over the allocation of the 300 housing units, with the party questioning whether the process was transparent and what criteria was used to select beneficiaries.
While welcoming the delivery of houses to residents who have waited for dignified housing, ActionSA says the process must be fair, transparent and accountable.
Netshitungulu said the party wants to establish how beneficiaries were identified and whether the allocation process followed clear and consistent criteria.
Mashaba and the delegation , said Netshitungulu , are expected to meet community members at Diepkloof Sports Ground in Zone 5, next to Diepkloof Square, at 10am where the discussions will take place.
The delegation will also include ActionSA’s Johannesburg MMC candidates for Economic Development, Botsang Moiloa; Group Corporate and Shared Services, Nandi Ndaba; Finance, Mpumi Edward; Public Safety, Marcel Coutriers; Environment and Infrastructure Services, Bongani Mabizela; Sports, Arts and Culture, Tshepo Mashiane; and Health and Social Development, Sarah Wissler.
The engagement comes as the party seeks answers about the allocation of the Jabulani housing units and the concerns of residents who are still waiting for homes.
