Marumo coach does the unpredictable, apologises to Gallants hierarchy after heavy defeat
Marumo Gallants coach Phuti Mohafe has apologised to the club’s hierarchy after his side suffered a humiliating 3-1 defeat to Stellenbosch FC.
The defeat, which came in the Betway Premiership on Friday, was Gallants’ first loss of the season. Quwan Plaatjies was the star of the match, scoring a hat-trick to secure a comfortable victory for Stellenbosch on his debut.
Gallants conceded twice in the first half after making costly defensive mistakes. Things got worse when Stellenbosch added a third goal after the break. Gallants managed to pull one goal back, but could not complete the comeback.
Mohafe admitted that his team’s performance was below the required standard and immediately apologised to the club’s hierarchy. “First and foremost, I would like to apologise to Marumo Gallants because of the heavy loss. The way we lost it wasn’t supposed to happen,” said Mohafe.
He accepted full responsibility for the defeat and blamed the team’s failure to defend properly for the result. He also admitted that the two goals conceded in the first half were avoidable mistakes. “I take full responsibility for that, and I think that, had we managed to defend well and not made those silly mistakes that we have made, we could be saying something else right now.”
