Maritzburg Welcome Jooste For Assessment

Maritzburg United, in a bid to get off the bottom of the DStv Premiership table, have welcomed the arrival of Wayde Jooste for an assessment.

Jooste has been without a club since he departed Orlando Pirates at the end of last season.

He initially tried his luck at SuperSport United for sometime at the beginning of the season and coach Gavin Hunt was seemingly impressed in signing him.

But it seems that deal did not happen and Jooste has since left the Tshwane giants to try his luck at the Team of Choice.

His timing to go to Maritzburg seems to be tied in with a possible reunion with his former coach Fadlu Davids who was appointed by the club on Monday.

The Team of Choice are currently at the bottom of the log table with 11 points after 13 matches, levelled on points with 15th placed Sekhukhune United.

Looking at Maritzburg overall, they were expected to make player improvement in the bid to change their fortunes to survive this season. They have so far won two league matches, all coming from home, having scored just six.

They are alongside TS Galaxy to have scored the least number of goals (six) so far this season and conceded 19 which is more than any other side.

If they do sign Jooste, they will be getting someone who can play in different positions. The former Bloemfontein Celtic player can play right and left back and can also slot in the advance area, as was the case with Highlands Park.

If Jooste is signed by Maritzburg, he will be playing in the KwaZulu-Natal province for the second time. He previously played at Golden Arrows between 2016 until 2019.

Since the 31-year-old made his PSL debut in the 2013/14 season, he has featured in 141 matches, scoring just eight goals in the process.
