Maritzburg United midfielder Zukile Kewuti looks set for an abrupt exit from the club after being deemed surplus to requirements.

Kewuti joined the Maritzburg at the beginning of last season from Cape Town City.

The 27-year-old, who came through City’s development spent a few seasons in the club before he was loaned out to AmaZulu FC.

The Nyanga-born player had a great stint under Benni McCarthy at Usuthu where he there caught the eye of the team from eMgungundlovu.

It has reached iDiski Times that Kewuti has been told he’s not into coach John Maduka’s plans.

The last time Kewuti played at Maritzburg United was last season under coach Ernest Midderndorp he is yet to play under Maduka. According to the source, ‘Muller’ spent some days training with the reserve side (DDC) before the coach considered that he was no longer part of the plan.

A few weeks ago, Maduka gave some insight when he was asked about Kewuti by the media.

“He hasn’t played any game, he is still part of the team,” he said at Danie Craven Stadium after their loss to Stellenbosch. “We strongly believe with the experience he has, he will be given the opportunity. He is not injured.”

The Team of Choice recently played a 1-1 draw in their KwaZulu Natal-Derby against AmaZulu. Maduka’s side will look to end the struggle before going to the FIFA World Cup break next week Tuesday when they face league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
