Maritzburg Distance Themselves From Fadlu Return

Maritzburg United has distanced themselves on speculation that Fadlu Davids could return to the club following his Orlando Pirates exit.

Pirates announced a week ago that they won’t be renewing Davids’s contract after he spent three years with the club.

The 41-year-old joined Pirates in 2019 as an assistant coach after he was sacked by United following a poor run of results. He worked as an assistant to Rulani Mokwena and later Josef Zinnbauer, helping the German tactician to end the club’s trophy drought and lift the MTN8 trophy in 2020.

The Cape Town-born mentor was then appointed as a co-coach at Pirates with Mandla Ncikazi following the departure of Zinnebaur at the beginning of 2021/22.

Together with Ncikazi, Davids led Buccaneers to the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup final which was the Sea Robber’s fourth continental final in the history of the club. Unfortunately, though, they came short on penalties against Moroccan side RS Berkane.

After the announcement by Pirates that his contract won’t be renewed, speculation arose about a return to Maritzburg United as well as a move to SuperSport United. But ‘The Team of Choice’ denied rumours regarding a potential return to the club.

“Those rumours are fake, there’s nothing like that,” United chairman Farouk Kadodia told iDiskiTimes.

The former Pirates mentor is also heavily linked with Matsatsantsa, who are in search of a new head coach after parting ways with Kaitano Tembo just before the end of 2021/22 campaign, leaving Andre Arendse as a caretaker coach.
