Margeman: I Was Tired Of Being Loaned Out

SuperSport United midfielder Grant Margeman says it frustrated him a lot to be going out on loan all the time from Mamelodi Sundowns.

Margeman has since, having been sent on loan last season by Sundowns to SuperSport, the move between parties was made permanent after a great breakthrough last term in helping Gavin Hunt’s side finished third last term.

As he made an impact in the side, Hunt and his management saw it fit to conclude terms and ensure they get the move on the permanent deal, which delighted his mentor.

“Obviously as a player you don’t want to go out on loan every season – changing clubs,” said Margeman.

“I made a decision to make it a permanent move and I think for myself at this stage of my career it is a good move and I know the coach and some of the guys.

“Now it is about putting in the work to obviously pay back the club for making this move possible.”

Margeman was asked if he feels having left Sundowns where the game time was premium and the club is notoriously known to be difficult to sell players to their rivals, can this be compared to being out of jail?

He said having a home settled will result in him expressing himself better.

“Now that I’m stable at the club, it gives me more comfort to know that I will be here for the next couple of seasons,” said Margeman, who could not play against Sundowns due to the loan clause last season and now he will face them.

“As soon as the player is comfortable somewhere, I think you automatically see the player expressing himself more, wanting to give more for the team and everyone that is involved.

“For me now it is obviously to show what I can do on the field and express myself more to show my ability that I can offer to the team.”

Margeman, 25, started 26 league matches last term and found a good partner in Siphesihle Ndlovu, who just like him, has completed his move from Orlando Pirates to SuperSport, having been on loan last term from the Soweto giants.

The former Cape Town Spurs graduate is excited that he will continue to play with Ndlovu in the next coming seasons to strengthen their relationship on the field.

“When I saw the news that he signed permanently, I was personally happy,” said Margeman.

“I was happy when he joined last season because I knew that we are getting a quality player, someone that can push himself, push the other guys that play in the midfield.

“We had a good relationship last season and for me I hope we can build on it and do better this season.”
