HIS OWN HAPPILY EVER AFTER

Both Makazole Mapimpi and his wife, Sasha de Sousa, have kept their marriage and life as parents out of the spotlight.

According to coach Rassie Erasmus, the Springbok had a difficult upbringing with a broken family unit.

In season one of the Springboks documentary Chasing The Sun, Rassie was left in tears when he recounted Mapimpi’s childhood.

He said of the squad: “On the back of your jersey, there are numbers where you could have photos of family members.

“He only had photos of himself; he didn’t have anyone else, and I asked, ‘Why are you doing this?’ and he said, ‘I’ve got nobody.’”

Rassie added: “He has a massive heart.”

According to TshisaLive, Mapimpi’s mother, Eunice, died in a car accident when he was just 14. Meanwhile, his father had abandoned his family.

Mapimpi also suffered the devastating deaths of his sister, Zukiswa, who succumbed to a brain illness, and his brother Zolani, who was electrocuted.
