South African music duo Mapara A Jazz have safely returned home following a terrifying reported kidnapping incident in Ethiopia.
The popular duo, comprising Leonard Malatji and Mano Nephawe, landed at OR Tambo International Airport on Monday, 27 October, sharing their relief on social media.
“We’re finally home! We’re grateful to say that we are safely back home,” the musicians posted, expressing gratitude to supporters in both Ethiopia and South Africa, and offering a “very special thanks” to Black Diamond VIP Protection for their assistance during the ordeal.
The incident occurred during a trip for a planned performance in Ethiopia on Saturday, 25 October.
The “John Vuli Gate” hitmakers had documented their journey online, posting from OR Tambo on Thursday, 23 October, before arriving in Addis Ababa later that day.
However, the trip took a frightening turn when the duo posted on Sunday morning that they had been kidnapped and urgently needed help.
One member even shared a photograph of an injury to his face, though details surrounding the alleged kidnapping and the circumstances of the injury have not been made public.
The musicians are now back in South Africa and safe.
