Manqoba Updates On Downs Flu Outbreak

Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi says one or two players are not looking good to recover in time for Saturday’s Nedbank Cup final.

 

The Masandawana coach addressed the media ahead of the the Nedbank Cup final against Marumo Gallants on Wednesday, two days after the club confirmed they had suffered from a serious flu outbreak within the squad.

As many as 17 players were sidelined for Downs 3-2 win over Royal AM on Monday, with several of them having suffered from flu.

Ahead of Saturday’s final, Mngqithi insisted they hope for a positive update from their medical team ahead of training later in the day.

“At this stage we’re not yet 100% sure, but already on match day against Royal AM a lot of player were showing signs that they are recovering,” he said.

“Yesterday, I met a few who were coming here for the shoot, one or two of them were not looking very good but one hopes that when we get the doctors update just before training this afternoon, we will be able to understands exactly what we’ll have [available] for the weekend.”

Sundowns take on Gallants at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium at 18:00 on Saturday, when they could complete their treble after already lifting the DStv Premiership title and the MTN8 trophy.
