Mamelodi Sundowns co-coaches Rulani Mokweana and Manoqba Mngqithi have reacted to winning their first-ever Coach of the Season honour from the Premier Soccer League.

The duo who won the DStv Premiership back-to-back since the departure of Pitso Mosimane in September 2020 beat John Maduka (Royal AM) and Eric Tinkler (Cape Town City) to the award this season and this after being pipped to it by Benni McCarthy, who steered AmaZulu to league runners up in the 2020/21 campaign.

“It’s been an incredible season thank you for bestowing us this honour of being chosen or voted as coaches of the season,” Mokwena said on SuperSport TV. “Also extend the sincere gratitude to the almighty for the gift and support and for being able to lead this football club.

“We receive it on behalf of our players with huge humility, without them this would not be possible, we always reiterate that the game belongs to the players and this award we received is on behalf of them.”

Mngqithi added: “I just want to thank the president of the club for giving me this opportunity, the chairman and board for the support that they’ve given us this season and also the yellow nation for being there with us, even when they were not allowed to be at the stadiums, they were there with us. It was worth our while to be there throughout the season, sweat, blood and tears to make sure we win it.”
