He said that members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) arrived on the scene at around 09:06 on Thursday.
According to Balram, the murdered man was confronted by two brothers who demanded that he return a pair of jeans he had borrowed.
“The brothers confronted the man who was known to them outside his home and asked him to hand over a pair of jeans which he borrowed.
“The man refused and insisted that they return a pair of takkies which they borrowed from him then only would he hand over the jeans.”
Balram claimed that the victim’s older brother, a 28-year-old man, grabbed him and pinned him to the ground before his teenage brother (18) stabbed him in the chest. “The injured man died at the scene. Both brothers fled on foot in an unknown direction.”
He added that Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) personnel arrived at the location at around 09:06. A witness was questioned and gave a description of the brothers’ clothing.
“The 18-year-old teenager who was hiding in an outdoor toilet approximately a kilometre from the scene was arrested by RUSA officers while members of the community apprehended his brother,” Prem Balram said.
Both brothers were turned over to the Ndwedwe SAPS, who is looking into a murder case. The individual who was killed has not yet been identified.
