Man Being Chased By Durban Cops Dies After Shooting Himself

A man who was being pursued by police in the Durban CBD has tragically died after allegedly shooting himself. The incident took place on Tuesday while officers were carrying out their crime prevention duties along Anton Lembede Street.

According to the KZN SAPS spokesperson, Robert Netshiunda, officers stopped a man they believed was acting suspiciously and requested to search him. However, the man refused to be searched and suddenly fled the scene while pointing a firearm at the police.

The police immediately initiated a chase in an attempt to apprehend the suspect. The pursuit led them to South Beach, where the man reportedly shot himself. Despite the efforts made by the police to save the man, he tragically succumbed to his injuries.

Following the incident, an inquest docket has been opened by the South African Police Service. This will allow for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
