Man Accused Of Slitting Throat Of 8-year-old Girl Abandons Bail
Sipho Nkosi, accused of slitting his girlfriend’s 8-year-old daughter’s throat, dropped his bail application after his first court appearance yesterday at the Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court.
Instead of seeking bail, Nkosi requested that his family accompany him to his girlfriend’s house to retrieve his belongings. He was arrested and remanded in custody.

Outside the court, members of the public joined community structures and organizations to support the family of the Grade 2 victim.
Nkosi is charged with attempted murder in connection with the April incident. The 8-year-old survived the ordeal and was rushed to Mamelodi Hospital after her neighbors came to her aid after hearing her screams.
Nkosi, from Mamelodi East’s Section A, and the minor’s mother are thought to be in a romantic relationship. They allegedly had an argument while attending a funeral. He then went to her house to try to resolve the situation.
The mother, on the other hand, had gone to a car wash, leaving the child with her grandmother. Nkosi allegedly slit the child’s throat with a butcher’s knife from the kitchen.
The accused was apprehended after turning himself in at the Hammanskraal police station. Yesterday, members of the community, the lobbying group Not In My Name, and other organizations gathered outside the court to express their outrage.

“I would like to thank the community and the organisations that came to support us. We hear that there are many cases against him, and the police are investigating those cases.
“I am happy that the police finally arrested him, as they have been looking for him since 2019 for a gender-based violence case against him. It seems that this is what he likes to do against women and children.”
The minor has been released from the hospital and is being seen by social workers and psychologists. She can speak, but not properly.
Not In My Name’s Themba Masango addressed the crowd outside court, saying that when a child is victimized, it affects everyone. He stated that before we were affiliated with any organization, we were all South Africans.
“We must stand together as the community of Mamelodi to make sure that we get rid of these animals on our streets,” he said.
Masango stated that they would be present in force for the next court appearance on May 30.
