Chippa United Head Coach Morgan Mammila has reacted annoyed over questions regarding his exact role at the club and confirmed he has a two-year contract “as coach/manager”.
The Chille Boys suffered their first defeat since Mammila took over from Daine Klate after Cape Town City came from a goal down to win 2-1 on Tuesday evening.
The Eastern Cape-based side went into the break leading 1-0, courtesy of the former Cape Town All-Stars midfielder Ronaldo Maarman. However, Chippa were nowhere to be found as City kept on piling the pressure and in the 72nd minute, they go rewarded with Khanyisa Mayo netting the equaliser.
Mammila’s thought they might at least get a point but Citizens captain Thamsanqa Mkhize slotted home the winner six minutes before the final whistle.
The defeat ended Mammila’s four-match winning run on the sidelines and after the match he reacted annoyed to continuous questions over his position at the club after he was first listed as assistant coach to Klate and later to Siyabulela Gwambi.

“No call me manager, I’m like coaches in Europe,” Mammila told the media.
“You asked a simple question, if you check the team sheet it says ‘head coach’. So you’re asking a head coach what’s your position. There it says [I am] the head coach.
“Are you asking me when is he changing me as a head coach? I am the head coach!
“This is a professional team, [like] every professional team we’re working with a contract. I have a got two-year contract as a coach/manager of this team.”
Chippa will quickly have to shift their focus ahead of the weekend clash against in-form Richards Bay, who are on a seven-match unbeaten run.
