Well-known socialite and businesswoman Shauwn “Mamkhize” Mkhize is facing social media attacks after an attempted assassination on South African Revenue Service (Sars) senior advocate Coreth Naudé.

Coreth was shot three times after leaving a tax inquiry involving Shauwn Mkhize on 18 July.

She is in intensive care, and the attack near Gateway shopping centre is under investigation. The shooter is still on the run.

Sars Commissioner Edward Kieswetter strongly condemned the attempted assassination.

Mamkhize trended on social media, with many pointing to her as a suspect.

An X user wrote that Shauwn Mkhize was helped by the eThekwini and the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal for many years.

“An advocate working with Sars to collect unpaid taxes from her is now fighting for her life after an assassination attempt. Connect the dots,” said the user.

Another user said: “The attempted hit comes 488 days after the double murder of Cloete Murray and his son Thomas. Murray Snr and Naudé worked together for years on the same matter involving Shauwn Mkhize.”

In late March, Mamkhize was about to lose her collection of luxury cars because she allegedly owed Sars R37 million.

Sars applied for a court order to seize 13 luxury vehicles, including a Rolls-Royce Cullinan, Porsche Urus, Mercedes-Maybach, and several BMWs.

The cars were held in a trust owned by her brother and two nieces.
