Mamelodi Sundowns to replace Teboho Mokoena

Sundowns’ midfield general will sit out the trip to Polokwane after serving a suspension.

The Bafana Bafana maestro suffered a late dismissal in last week’s league match against Siwelele FC.

Mokoena picked up his second yellow card in the 81st minute of that encounter, a game that eventually ended in a 1–1 draw.

MAMELODI SUNDOWNS STAR SPHELELE MKHULISE TO EARN ANOTHER START?

Last week’s 2-0 win over Orbit College in Tshwane witnessed a midfield reshuffle. With Mokoena and Macelo Allende rested, coach Miguel Cardoso called on Mkhulise in the number six role, while Jayden Adams slotted in for Allende.

Mkhulise’s impressive performance leaves him as the top favourite to start in Polokwane.

The clash takes place on Tuesday, 27 January at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 19:30.

Sekhukhune United have built a reputation for being stubborn at home. Betway Premiership high-flyers Orlando Pirates only walked away with a point at the same venue last Saturday.

Mamelodi Sundowns are still setting the pace in the 2025–2026 term. They sit top of the table alongside Orlando Pirates on 28 points each.

Kabo Yellow have enjoyed a consistent start to the campaign, registering eight wins, five draws and only one defeat from their first 14 league outings.

Sundowns have scored 22 goals so far while conceding just seven, giving them a healthy +15 goal difference. They’ve also been formidable at home, remaining unbeaten with six wins and one draw this season.

Iqraam Rayners has led the scoring charts with six goals, while Mokoena has played a key creative role, providing four assists and driving the team’s tempo in midfield.
