Mamelodi Sundowns have officially confirmed the departure of midfielder Thembinkosi Lorch, bringing an end to his two-year stint with the club.

The 32-year-old, who joined the Brazilians from Orlando Pirates, spent the last season on loan with Moroccan side Wydad AC.

Despite a successful spell in North Africa, where he impressed during the FIFA Club World Cup, his future at Sundowns remained uncertain upon his return.

In a social media post, the club thanked the player, who is affectionately known as “Nyoso,” for his service.

“After 2 unforgettable years, 1 league title, 26 appearances, 7 goals and 4 assists, the Yellow Nation thanks and celebrates Thembinkosi Lorch,” the post read.

“Wishing you all the best as you start the next chapter of your journey!”

Lorch’s exit follows the departure of former head coach Rulani Mokwena, who was instrumental in bringing him to the club and later facilitating his loan to Wydad. The player had seemingly fallen out of favour at Sundowns following Mokwena’s exit.

There is now speculation that Lorch could make a permanent move back to Wydad, where he had a notable impact during his loan spell.
