The accused in the Mamelodi cousins murder, Tebogo Mnisi (38), abandoned his bail application during his first court appearance today, Wednesday, 29 October.
Mnisi faces multiple charges, including the murder of Tshiamo and Baleseng Moramaga, attempted murder of a third victim, and illegal possession of a firearm.
The case has been postponed to 19 January 2026, keeping Mnisi in custody while residents protested outside court, drawing attention to the crisis of Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

Tebogo Mnisi (38), the man accused of killing cousins Tshiamo and Baleseng Moramaga in Mamelodi East Extension 17 on Sunday, 26 October, has chosen to abandon his bail application and opted to be represented by legal aid.

This follows Mnisi’s first appearance in the Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court today, Wednesday, 29 October.

He faces multiple charges, including two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The Citizen reports that Mnisi, who has been remanded in custody, is set to spend Christmas behind bars, as the matter has been postponed to 19 January 2026.

The bodies of Tshiamo (22) and Baleseng Moramaga (21) were discovered with gunshot wounds to the head on the side of the road in Mahube Valley in Mamelodi East, Pretoria, on Sunday.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), there was also a third victim who was shot during the incident and is currently recovering in hospital.

“Acting on this information, a joint team consisting of detectives from Gauteng Provincial Serious and Violence Crime Unit, Provincial Crime Intelligence, and Mamelodi East Detectives arrested the suspect at a filling station in Pretoria,” said Captain Tintswalo Sibeko.

Ahead of Mnisi’s court appearance this morning, demonstrating residents of Mamelodi gathered outside the Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court in a hive of song and protest.

Founder of the advocacy group Voices in Action, Kgotatso Moloto, told Kaya News that solutions to dealing with Gender-Based Violence (GBV) exist.
