Following their official engagement in Cape Town last week, Papa Joy traveled to Mama Joy’s hometown of Malamulele in Limpopo to formalise the lobola ceremony. Mama Joy shared photos of the intimate moment when she and Papa Joy exchanged wedding bands in the presence of her family.
The couple donned traditional Xitsonga attire, with Mama Joy wearing the iconic xibelana skirt, typically worn by Tsonga women during celebrations, while Papa Joy wore tijhovo as a gesture of respect for her culture.
A video shows Papa Joy entering the Chauke household with groomsmen in matching outfits, who appear to be from Mama Joy’s family.
Last month, Mama Joy revealed to Scrolla.Africa that Papa Joy would visit her family in September to fulfill his promise to them, having already expressed his desire to marry her.
The couple met a year ago in France during the Rugby World Cup, and their connection has been undeniable ever since.
In a heartwarming gesture, Papa Joy’s mother presented Mama Joy with a gold ring and watch during her visit last month, symbolizing her acceptance into the family.
