AmaZulu FC midfielder George Maluleka understands that facing ABC Motsepe League side Dondol Stars in the Nedbank Cup last 16 won’t be an easy task.
Stars are coming to the Usuthu game with their tails up following a 4-0 win over the weekend against Dube Continental in the Gauteng ABC Motsepe League round of 26.
The Pretoria-based side are now sitting top of the table with 59 points, seven points clear off second spot.
They’ve shocked almost everybody already in the tournament after dumping out SuperSport United in the last-32, beating them 2-1 in the Tshwane derby.
Usuthu midfielder Maluleka understands very well that it won’t be easy for them but if they apply themselves well they have a big chance of making it to the quarterfinals.
“Dondol is not going to be an easy opponent,” Maluleka told AmaZulu media.
“We’ve seen a couple of clips, I think also in the SuperSport United match we saw that they are not scared of playing. So it’s gonna be an interesting one.
“But I think If we can just apply ourselves and approach the game without undermining our opposition then we should be able to pull through.
“I think we are aware, like you mention the history of the tournament, David and Goliath. Like I said I don’t think we should have that in mind.
“The approach should be like any other game. Not undermining anyone, respecting the opposition but also showing them that we are just as capable and why we are also playing in the top tier.
“There’s a lot of things to consider but also being wary of them being a smaller team, they have nothing to lose. They can be more explosive which is putting us more under pressure.
“We just need to apply ourselves and give it all out. I don’t think we should have any problems.”

In the last 10 years, Usuthu have never reached the quarter-finals of the competition, but they could end that negative run on Wednesday evening at FNB Stadium.
