Malesela On Top Eight Finish & Lifted Transfer Ban

Marumo Gallants head coach Dan Malesela says being out of the MTN8 could be a blessing in disguise while addressing their transfer ban being lifted by FIFA this week.

Gallants laboured to a 0-0 draw against Golden Arrows at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday afternoon which did no favours to either club in their quest to secure a top-eight finish.

But with ‘Dan Dance’ and his boys already in a Cup final and qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup, he’s mindful that chasing more could be the detriment of his side next season.

Malesela Sends Warning To Jomo

“Our top eight hopes are slipping but I don’t want to be selfish, we should be aware of the fact that maybe we may chew more than we have to,” Malesela told iDiski Times journalist Lethabo

“We get the top eight and then we have the Confederation Cup, then you will have the league also and we don’t know with the World Cup coming and the AFCON, you never know how congested our fixtures are going to be.

“So somewhere we could be saved, much as one wants to be in all competitions and win all competitions, you know – we should appreciate what we have. We’re secured in the league and we have the Nedbank Cup final to play.”

On the transfer ban being lifted he said: “Yes, it’s very good news, very good news! Now we can pick and choose [who we want].”

Gallants face TS Galaxy and Sekhukhune United in their final two league outings before the Cup final against DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
