After beating Cape Town City 2-1 on Saturday, Marumo Gallants’ head coach Dan Malesela said it was good to pick up the win, but it was a very difficult game.
Gallants had taken a deserved lead into half-time, but City came back strongly in the second half. After levelling matters, it looked like City would push for the victory, but it was Ranga Chivaviro who completed his brace with a last-minute winner for the home team.
Speaking to iDiski Times‘ journalist Lethabo Kganyago after the game, Malesela said it was tough going in the second half, but he won’t be too hard on the players, especially after getting the important three points
“Look, first of all, good to have a second win since I came here, but a very difficult game,” Malesela told Kganyago.
“I always knew that it was going to be difficult. After the first half, we said to the players ‘it’s going to be very, very difficult. They’re gonna come at us you and if we don’t soak up what we can now and really be able to tame them down, and start playing ourselves then it’s going to be a very big challenge’.

“But that was not to happen, I think we panicked as well. We panicked because of the desperation to try and get three points all the time, and get ourselves away from where we are.
“But you cannot be selfish and say you are not happy with the performance of the boys. Mistakes here and there but they worked very hard. I feel for these boys because now we have to take a very long trip to Libya.
“We’ll manage the situation because this is our job, this is what we are here for, and this is the nature of the game that we wanted to be involved with. So we will take it as it comes.”
