Marumo Gallants coach Dan Malesela has downplayed the impact of the departure of midfielders Miguel Timm and Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo.
Timm and Ndlondlo joined Orlando Pirates ahead of the 2022/23 season. They had been key members of the team that also clinched the Nedbank Cup.
The club has brought in players such as Sizwe Mdlinzo and Olivier Touré to fill the gap. Lucky Mohomi and Sibusiso Kumalo have also found some game time since the pair left.
MALESELA AND MARUMO MOVING ON
Speaking after the 0-0 draw against AmaZulu at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday, Malesela says the club has moved on from the past and didn’t want to comment on whether they have missed the two.
“No, I don’t even want to go there. We need to move on,” said Malesela.
“I was telling players about hanging into things that have passed and are out of your life. You don’t do that, life goes on.
“For me, I don’t care what happened with history and whatever, we just need to focus on the new challenges that we have,” he said.
LATEST ON SICELOKUHLE HLATSHWAYO
Malesela also commented on the imminent departure of defender Sicelokuhle Hlatshwayo. Hlatshwayo is believed to have agreed with the club to terminate his services. Sources have told this publication that the 28-year-old is eying a move to KwaZulu-Natal.
“To Marumo Gallants family and the people who always show their support towards as well as the fans of Gallants FC ! kea leboha (I thank you),” Hlatshwayo announced on his social media platforms on Tuesday.
“I would like to express gratitude, not taking lightly the opportunity the team has given me to play in the Caf, Compact Cup, and Nedbank Cup, and the accolades I got while playing for the team. I will forever be grateful for what the team has done for me n my career,” he said.
But Malesela says nothing has been finalised between the club ad the defender in terms of his departure.
“It’s not concluded as yet. Let’s wait until it’s done and we will see. It’s in the pipeline but it’s not concluded yet.”
