The Gauteng High Court has ruled in favour of Julius Malema and Mantoa Matlala, ordering social media commentator Musa Khawula to retract defamatory claims regarding their marriage.
Justice Wright declared that Khawula’s posts which alleged the couple were divorcing due to infidelity were unlawful and defamatory.
The dispute began in February 2026 when Khawula claimed on X (formerly Twitter) that Mantoa Matlala had filed for divorce.
Despite legal pressure, Khawula initially refused to back down, taunting the EFF leader online and suggesting Malema had attempted to bribe him to bury the story. The court has now dismissed these assertions entirely.
Under the terms of the judgment, Khawula has 24 hours to permanently delete the posts and publish an unconditional apology on his X account.
He is also required to distribute this apology to any media outlets that shared his original claims and is strictly prohibited from publishing similar allegations in the future.
Furthermore, the court ordered Khawula to pay the applicants’ legal fees on an attorney-and-client scale, including the costs of two counsel.
The EFF welcomed the decision, hailing it as a victory against what they termed a “discredited” commentator.
