Malawian Nationals Caught In Possession Of Stolen Vehicle And 17 iPhones
A Malawian national was apprehended on Wednesday, October 5, for being in possession of a stolen vehicle.
According to Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) spokesperson Xolani Fihla, the male suspect was apprehended by JMPD Operations officers in possession of the stolen vehicle at Rahima Moosa and Small Street in the Johannesburg CBD.
“On Wednesday 05 October 2022, whilst conducting a stop and search operation at the High Court precinct along Rahima Moosa Street between Von Wielligh and Small Street, officers stopped a silver Nissan Xtrail without the front registration plate,” said Fihla.
He went on to say that the officers searched the vehicle, which had a rear Western Cape registration plate and a Malawian license disc. “A vehicle inquiry was conducted using the eNatis system and it was found that the registration plate belongs to a Black BMW 3 series.”

He confirmed that the vehicle was checked further with the VIN number and discovered to be stolen and sought as per a Bedfordview SAPS case. The suspect, a malawian national, was arrested and detained at the Johannesburg Central SAPS station right away.
Fihla informed the court that he will most likely appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court this week. “The stolen vehicle was seized and booked in at the SAPS Aeroton pound for further investigation,” he said.
Meanwhile, another Malawian national was arrested on Tuesday by Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) IIOC Undercover officers in possession of suspected stolen property at Commissioner Street in the Johannesburg CBD.
