Malawi coach Mwase fired | African News

Malawi coach Meck Mwase has been fired, with the technical director (TD) Mario Marinica taking over the reins of the Flames, writes Peter Kanjere.
The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) confirmed the release of Mwase whose future was thrown in doubt when Marinica took charge of the Flames at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cameroon.
A statement from FAM says Marinica will relinquish his TD position with Benjamin Kumwenda taking over the reins.
FAM arrived at the decision during its quarterly meeting held on Saturday.
“The Committee resolved to appoint Technical Director Mario Marinica as the Head Coach of the Malawi Men’s National Football,” a statement from FAM reads
“This was arrived at after the committee was impressed with the performance of the National Team at the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cameroun in January under Marinica as Caretaker Head of Technical Panel and resolved to give him a full mandate.”
FAM says Mwase, who has a running contract, will be redeployed. Mwase steered Malawi to the 2021 AFCON finals before FAM hired Marinica coincidently following the Flames’ poor performance in World Cup qualifiers
