Mako Takes A Dig At Chiefs Over Celebrating Drawing Pirates

Orlando Pirates full-back Paseko Mako has taken a dig at Kaizer Chiefs over their celebrations when drawing the Buccaneers in the Nedbank Cup semi-final after his side knocked Amakhosi out.

Mako, 29, was named Man of the Match after putting in a real shift to stop Chiefs’ forward Ashley Du Preez in their 2-1 extra-time win to book their place in the Nedbank Cup final

After the match, Mako couldn’t resist to draw the attention back to the Nedbank Cup draw, when Chiefs’ management and players celebrated being paired against their bitter rivals, who they had beaten five times before Saturday’s clash.

“Thank you to my teammates, I’m happy that we won and we’re going to the final,” he said on SuperSport TV.

“I think we have to prepare for the final.

“Sorry to say this [but] the time they drew us, they were happy and now I think we did it for the supporters and for the Orlando Pirates family.”

Mako also explained his positional switches during the 90 minutes, which saw him start as left-back before moving to the opposite flank when Bandile Shandu got injured just before half-time.

“I think when Bandile got injured, coach told that I have to go to the right side to help there,” he added.

“It’s not the first time I’m playing at right-back. It’s not all about me, it’s all about the team.

“I have to help the team to win.”

Pirates have reached the final of the competition since it’s been renamed as Nedbank Cup for a third time, winning both the 2010/11 and 2013/14 editions. They will find out on Sunday who between Stellenbosch FC and Sekhukhune United will face them in this year’s final.
