Stellenbosch defender Olwethu Makhanya says going to play overseas is one of his dreams but not an immediate one.

The 19-year-old defender has enjoyed a wonderful breakthrough season in the DStv premiership, having played 20 League matches and helping Stellies finish in seventh position with 40 points.

He scored one goal in the league while he played four matches in the Nedbank Cup which resulted in him being voted the most promising player of the tournament.

Makhanya told iDiski Times writer Lethabo Kganyago in Edition 107 of the newspaper that there are clubs from abroad that have been in contact with him however he wants something solid.

I wouldn’t say I still want to mature. If an opportunity comes up I’d be happy to take it because those kinds of chances are rare,” Makhanya told iDiski Times.

“So going overseas is a big target for me. Even if I don’t go next season but at some point I have to go overseas.

“I already have people talking to me but so far it’s just talk nothing concrete. I’d like for the talk to be accompanied by action like being invited to be assessed. I want straight things, paperwork, I want action if I can put it like that.

“The teams I’m talking to, there’s a team from Belgium, there’s one from Portugal and France. There’s also a team from Denmark but those three are the ones I’m maybe looking forward to.”
