Majavu To Stay On As PSL Prosecutor

PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu is set to remain with the league until the end of the season, iDiski Times can exclusively confirm.

Majavu was set to leave the PSL this month of November after he was asked to continue in the off season, but the PSL’s head honchos of the Exco and that of Board of Governors (BOG) have all agreed to continue

The BOG, which is made of all 32 clubs in the PSL, decided Majavu must carry on until the end of the season in a meeting last week.

The league is happy with how concise Majavu has been since he took over the league’s legal job in January this year.

Majavu took this post in January after the late Nande Becker left his post in November last year after the end of his contract.

However, Majavu was brought in on the short-term deal then of last season until the end to resolve many cases that were left by the late Becker backlogged in the PSL.

Majavu, for whom one of matters to solve was that of Kaizer Chiefs’ no-show last season due to Covid-19, assured the league that there won’t be outstanding matters that will have an impact on the standing of the season.

He delivered to that task and there was no matter that was left outstanding at the end of the season, unlike the previous of the 2020/21 season with Sekhukhune United, Polokwane City and Royal AM respectively.

It is when the league held talks during the off season with him to extend the deal until this November. But they are now saying he should carry on until the end of the season.

“We are happy with Majavu and he has been on point with everything. I mean his expertise in some of the cases has been good and has independently done well to resolve them. But we will review everything about him at the end of the season. We might bring in someone new to add to his expertise,” a source told this publication.

Majavu recently handed down in a disciplinary committee (DC) hearing on Monday morning to Orlando Pirates.

Pirates appeared before the PSL DC to answer for spectator misbehaviour when supporters invaded the pitch after the final whistle in the MTN8 second semi final fixture at New Peter Mokaba Stadium on 22 October against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Majavu fined Pirates R200,000 monetary fine, half of which is suspended for 24 months on condition they are not found guilty of the same offence in that period. It means Pirates will be paying R100,000 plus 50% of the costs of the DC hearing.
