PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu is set to leave the league as the legal guru in November, according to iDiski Times sources.
Majavu has been surprisingly handing out cases despite being initially appointed midway through last season to serve until the end of the term.
The advocate was appointed in January this year after Nande Becker saw his contract with the PSL end on 5 December last year.
Becker, a practising attorney with 36 years of experience, had been serving as the PSL prosecutor from 1 January 2013.
However, with him gone and the PSL locked with so many cases that needed to be solved urgently, including that of Kaizer Chiefs’ no-show against Cape Town City and Golden Arrows respectively due to Covid-19 in their camp, they needed to sort them out before the season ended.
With no one available, the PSL chairman Irvin Khoza confirmed that Majavu was brought back to be the prosecutor until the end of the season. Majavu handled all the outstanding cases at his disposal before the season ended.
But Majavu has continued with his work, charging City this season about the FNB sponsorship they acquired in July, with the club charged for displaying the brand without the approval of the league.
“Majavu extended his contract until November to handle all the cases that are currently in place,” said the mole.
“And then the AGM (PSL annual general meeting in November) will replace him.”
The PSL AGM, set to be held on 11 November, is when all 32 member clubs will be present in the meeting where PSL chairman Khoza will announce in front of them whether the PSL has made a profit or loss in the past year, and also other changes in the league.
As it has been the case in the past two seasons where the PSL has made a profit of R1-billion in each despite Covid-19, the league is set to earn a profit as things are back to normality following the deadly Coronavirus that crippled businesses worldwide upside down and saw games played without spectators in the country and around the world, and sponsors in the league pulling out.
“At this moment in time, I have no idea who the league is going to appoint as a prosecutor,” added the mole.
“But they will be the panel that will make that decision, so they will make that appointment.”
