Newly promoted Magesi FC has made a big splash in the PSL transfer market, signing 13 new players as it prepares for its first season in the top league.

Among the most notable signings are former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns forward Gift Motupa and ex-Kaizer Chiefs winger Kgaogelo Sekgota.

Both players joined as free agents, adding experience to the squad.

Other new arrivals include Menzi Ndwandwe from Chippa United and the former Sekhukhune United trio of Maloisane Mokhele, Lebogang Mabotja, and Wonderboy Makhubu.

Goalkeeper Bongani Mpandle was signed from Cape Town City, while Jacob Everson joined from Moroka Swallows.

Magesi FC also secured Malawian international Limbikani Mzava, who came in as a free agent.

However, coach Clinton Larsen has acknowledged that Motupa is not yet in peak physical condition.

“We know Gift hasn’t played football in about a year,” Larsen said.

“He admitted he was overweight when he joined us, but he has been working hard to get fit. He’s not 100% where we want him to be, but he’s improving, and the time before the season starts will help him get into top shape.”

Larsen said more positive things about Sekgota, predicting that the winger will have a standout season.

“Based on what I’ve seen, the South African public is going to see a completely different player compared to his time at Chiefs and Stellenbosch,” Larsen said.

“I believe he’s going to light up the league this season.”

In addition to the new players, Larsen has recruited former Sundowns midfielder Papi Zothwane as an assistant coach.

Magesi FC will play their home games at Polokwane’s Seshego Stadium, which last hosted PSL matches 22 years ago when it was the home ground of the now-defunct Ria Stars.
