Magesi FC head coach Jackie Ledwaba has heaped praised Elvis Chipezeze’s superb performance between the sticks in the Motsepe Foundation Championship Limpopo derby against Tshakuma Tsha Madzivhandila [TTM] over the weekend.
The South African football second-tier newcomers were held to a 1-all draw by TTM at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.
The ex-Phiva Young Stars mentor admitted in a post-match interview his praise to the Zimbabwean international shot-stopper that his heroics saves has not gone unnoticed.
Chipezeze joined the side at the beginning of the new season after parting ways with arch-rivals Baroka FC where he spent four seasons.
LEDWABA ON CHIPEZEZE…
When Ledwaba was asked about the 32-year-old goal-minder’s inspired display that helped his side salvage a point at home, he said:
“He [Chipezeze] helped us a lot with his experience there. Our opponents were on top of us. Their strikers are very powerful and strong, but we absorbed them.
“His extensive experience really came in handy and made no mistake.
“He really saved us, especially with those crosses, long balls and throw-ins.”
The only disappointment was when Chipezeze had to be replaced due to an injury that he sustained during the game.
Reflecting on the game itself, he added: “Credit to the boys. They played and made no mistake as they fought with everything.
“We were playing against very a good team. They are experienced with an experienced coach.
“The boys responded very well after losing 6-0 to JDR Stars. Everyone thought the morale will be down but we just encouraged and spoke to them.
“We told them that this is football they will baptise you and as they baptised us.
“We have accepted the loss and said to ourselves let’s just soldier on, it’s part of football and we need to go back to the drawing board and prepare for the next game.”
Currently, Magesi are sitting in the 10th spot with seven points in five games.
The club will play their next league game against Uthongathi FC away from home on Sunday, 9 October.
ick-off set for 15:30 in the afternoon.
