Maritzburg United coach John Maduka was furious with his after their 3-0 defeat to Stellenbosch FC at Danie Craven Stadium on Tuesday.
The bad away run continues for the Team of Choice, as they only managed to collect just one point away from home this season, with Tuesday’s 3-0 defeat seeing Maritzburg drop to 15th place on the log.
Maduka, though, insisted that the results are based on him working with a largely overhauled team and forming a new side takes time.
“It’s been a problem, remember we building a new team,” Maduka told the gathered journalists in Stellenbosch.
“You can see so many players that are new players. It needs time, some of them are coming from the NFD they haven’t adapted yet to the PSL. So it needs time, with time they have potential.
“The players we have, they have potential. It’s just a matter of time for us to start getting those points away from home.”
The 52-year-old, who is known for playing carpet football which has even been given the name of ‘MadukaBall’ in the South African football fraternity, but there wasn’t much of it to be seen against Stellenbosch.
As a consequence, he was furious to see his players kicking the ball forward without building from the back.
“If you look when the game started we put the ball on the ground we tried to play,” he explained.
“I don’t know why, because I don’t believe in that football of kicking the ball forward because at the end of the day it’s a hopping ball, [our] decision-making [was] very, very bad.
“Everything was bad and wrong decisions from the players because we don’t play like that.“
