Madlanga Commission Rejects Bafana Sindane Postponement Bid
The Madlanga Commission has dismissed taxi boss Oupa “Bafana” Sindane’s application to postpone his testimony.
The commission has directed that evidence concerning Sindane proceed on Monday, 28 September 2026, “in whatever format”.
Sindane was subpoenaed to appear before the commission on Wednesday but did not attend.
His legal team cited uncontrolled hypertension, spiritual seclusion, and an urgent High Court application challenging the commission’s subpoena and its use of WhatsApp messages obtained from his phone.
The High Court application is set down for 6 October 2026, but the commission declined to wait for that date.
Sindane is an associate of taxi boss Joe “Ferrari” Sibanyoni, whose evidence before the commission has included scrutiny of WhatsApp exchanges between the two men.
The messages have drawn attention to discussions involving “izinkabi”, with Sibanyoni disputing the interpretation placed on the exchanges.
Sindane and Sibanyoni are also co-accused in an alleged R2.2 million extortion and money-laundering case in Mpumalanga. Both have denied the charges.
Sindane is now expected before the commission on Monday.
