Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Yusuf Maart has sent a message to Orlando Pirates after his wonder goal and Man of the Match performance in the Soweto Derby.
Maart, 27, was at Pirates between 2017 and 2020 but couldn’t break into the first team, making just two very short appearances for the Buccaneers in the 2016/17 campaign.
He left Pirates in 2020 and joined Sekhukhuned United, where he had a standout 2021/22 season that earned him his move to the Amakhosi.
On Saturday, he scored the only goal in the Soweto Derby, beating Bucs goalkeeper Siyabonga Mpontshane from his own half, leading to wild celebrations of his teammates and the club’s technical.
After securing bragging rights for Chiefs and ensuring that his club overtook his former side on the log, Maart was asked how it felt making his Soweto Derby debut as a former Pirates academy graduate.
“To be honest with you, I appreciate them and I thank them for everything,” he told Julia Stuart on SuperSport TV.
“Things didn’t work out, the almighty put it the other way around and I appreciate it.”
Overall, Maart has made 14 appearances this season for Kaizer Chiefs, becoming a mainstay in Arthur Zwane’s midfield.
