The last victim of the Lusikisiki massacre, Nomazwi Ndleleni, 59, was buried on Sunday.
She was one of 18 people killed by gunmen at the Sinqina and Mhatu family home two weeks ago.
While the other 17 victims were buried on Friday and Saturday, Ndleleni’s family and friends came together in Ngobozana village on a cold, misty morning to say their final goodbyes.
The funeral started with a ritual to bring her spirit back from the Sinqina homestead, where she was killed.
She was buried just a few houses away from where the tragedy happened.
Ndleleni’s family said she was the breadwinner, supporting everyone in the family.
Family spokesperson Mlungisi Nziba said: “There will be a huge difference now that she is gone because she was a mother and father in this family.
Everyone depended on her, now that she is gone there will be a huge void. After this funeral, I wish the government can assist these children with food parcels because they depended on their mother who is no more.”
At a mass funeral on Saturday, Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane promised that those involved in the killings would soon be arrested.
So far, one person has been arrested, and the police are following more leads.
